NEW YORK (AP) Ryan Fitzpatrick has at least one torn ligament in his left thumb and Geno Smith is dealing with a badly bruised left shoulder, leaving the New York Jets' quarterback situation in disarray.
Coach Todd Bowles says Monday that both quarterbacks, hurt in Sunday's loss at Oakland, are day to day and their status for the game against Jacksonville at home next Sunday is uncertain.
Fitzpatrick's thumb will need surgery, although Bowles says he could potentially put it off until the offseason.
In the meantime, Bowles acknowledges that rookie Bryce Petty will get snaps with the starters at practice and the team is looking at other possibilities via trade or free agency.
Bowles confirms that Matt Flynn is a possibility after he spent time with the Jets in training camp.
