What looked like one nasty trick pulled by an old guy on a kid on Thursday instead turned into quite a treat for the young fan -- and quite a great day for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
As you can see in the video above and here, former Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma was back in the Steel City, his first game there behind the bench with his Buffalo Sabres. During a stoppage in play, Bylsma tossed a puck over the glass, intended for a young fan in a Pirates hat.
Instead, an older fella decided to play the Grinch for Halloween and swiped the airborne puck. A friendly gesture, catching the puck and then handing it over to the kid? Nope, more like a greedy grab by a guy in a Members Only jacket.
Well, word travels pretty quickly on social media nowadays, and before too long Bylsma made the kid whole and tossed him another puck. Only this time, the coach wisely threw it to an usher, who then made sure it ended up in the right hands. What's more, Iceburgh, the Penguins' mascot, one-upped the Pens' former leader and gave the kid a freakin' Sidney Crosby sweater!
And here's something you don't see in the video above … the Penguins gave the kid two pucks:
As for the action on the ice, the player known as The Kid netted a pair of assists as the home team beat Buffalo 4-3 for its sixth win in seven games after an 0-3 start to the season.
