St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley is taking the league by storm and his latest performance had the had the home fans serenading the rookie sensation.
In his third career start, and first in St. Louis, Gurley ran for 128 yards and the first two touchdowns of his NFL career in Sunday's 24-6 over the Cleveland Browns. Both TDs came in the season half before an appreciative crowd that chanted "Gur-ley! Gur-ley! Gur-ley!"
"I heard it," Gurley told reporters after the game. "It was cool, but just to get the win is a good feeling."
It was actually Gurley's second game at the Edward Jones Dome, but his initial appearance came in a tepid NFL debut in Week 3. Gurley managed only nine yards on six carries in his first game action since undergoing major knee surgery last November.
The No. 10 overall pick in this year's draft erupted for for 146 yards at Arizona and 159 yards in Green Bay prior to the bye, ratcheting up the expectations for his first home start. Gurley did not disappoint and the crowd let him know it.
"Our crowd chanting and stuff like that gives the players energy," linebacker James Laurinaitis said. "That was awesome to hear them chanting for Gurley."
