Freeney satisfied with play in Cardinals debut: 'I didn't do too bad'

Dwight Freeney was satisfied with his play in his season debut for the Arizona Cardinals, particularly since it came only five days after he was signed off the street.

The seven-time Pro Bowler played 20 snaps in the Cardinals' 25-13 loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday, his first game action since Dec. 28, 2014, while with the San Diego Chargers. Freeney practiced for the first time on the Wednesday before the game and was used as a situational pass-rushing linebacker.

"I was doing May, July, training camp, everything all in one in about four days, so my body was confused," Freeney said per Arizona Sports. "But all that being said, I didn't do too bad."

The 35-year-old Freeney acknowledged he has plenty of room for improvement - "It's funny because I don't know how big the playbook actually is" - but he left a favorable impression with coach Bruce Arians.

"He got one hit," Arians said of Freeney, who has 111.5 career sacks. "He played pretty hard and I think he only had one mental error, so that part of it should get better."
