After spending most of last season with the Indianapolis Colts, safety Dewey McDonald is back on the roster.

On Tuesday, the Colts announced the signing of McDonald from team's practice squad. Indianapolis also waived linebacker Amarlo Herrera and cornerback Shaun Prater from the active roster and quarterback Alex Tanney from the practice squad.

McDonald played in 12 games for the Colts as a rookie in 2014, and finished second on the team with 13 special teams tackles. He also played in all three playoff games last season.

The signing provides depth at safety for Indianapolis. Both Mike Adams and Clayton Geathers left Sunday night's game against the Patriots with injuries and are considered day to day. Adams has a hamstring injury, while Geathers hurt his knee, though an MRI taken after the game came back negative.
