A's promote Beane to Executive VP, Forst to GM

In an announcement that some saw coming for a while, the Oakland Athletics announced on Monday that Billy Beane has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations.

David Forst, previously Beane's assistant GM, was also promoted to full-time GM.

Back last month when manager Bob Melvin was given a contract extension, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle noted that Beane and Forst were due to get 'title bumps' at some point...and that's exactly what has happened.

While most teams that finish in last place such as the A's did in 2015 might 'clean house' with a new manager and/or coaching staff, this is another example of how the A's do things differently.

Rather than make any sweeping changes, they've instead promoted two longtime organizational figures and extended their manager.
