The New York Mets appear to have dodged a bullet with slugger Yoenis Cespedes.
After X-rays revealed no broken bones on his left ring and middle fingers stemming from a pitch that hit his hand in Wednesday's game, Cespedes is expected to return to the Mets lineup within the next few days.
"He's a little sore, he's got a bruise, but his hand is OK," manager Terry Collins told reporters Thursday. "Can he play tomorrow? I don't know yet."
Cespedes was sidelined on Thursday due to the incident, but the Mets are hopeful he'll be able to play this weekend in New York's season-finale series against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.
The 29-year-old outfielder has played an integral role in the Mets' second-half surge, which has catapulted them towards their first postseason run since 2006.
