Seth Russell and the No. 5 Baylor Bears have their edge back, just in time for the two-time Big 12 champions to start conference play.

Russell matched a school record with six touchdown passes, three of his five in the first half to Corey Coleman, and the Bears wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 70-17 romp over Rice.

The Bears (3-0) extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 18 games, including the first eight at their campus stadium in the Brazos River. They were coming off a bye following sluggish starts in victories against SMU, a one-win team last year, and lower-division Lamar.

Russell threw for 277 yards and Shock Linwood ran for 158 with a touchdown as the Bears rolled up more than 700 yards for the third straight game - a season-high 793 this time.

The national leader in yards and points per game coming in, Baylor scored at least 70 for the sixth time since 2013 and reached 60 for the 15th time in five seasons - six more than any other FBS school.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said this week that Cardale Jones was his starter despite two subpar performances that led to the quarterback's benching against Northern Illinois on Sept. 16.

Jones came through with an effective, although sometimes erratic, performance in throwing two touchdown passes and leading No. 1 Ohio State to a 38-12 victory over Western Michigan

Jones was 19 of 33 for 288 yards, but hit only 6 of 14 in the second half when he threw his only interception. J.T. Barrett, who replaced Jones against Northern Illinois, came on in the final 6:34 and threw an interception on his first drive.

Jones started strong for the Buckeyes (4-0), who won their 17th straight game. He threw a 38-yard TD pass to Michael Thomas on the Buckeyes' first series and added a 37-yard scoring pass to Jalin Marshall early in the second.

11-Career games with at least three touchdowns for Louisiana Tech's Kenneth Dixon, matching Montee Ball's NCAA record.

13-Years since Iowa topped 60 points before beating North Texas 62-16.

92-Total yards allowed by No. 12 Alabama in a 34-0 rout over Louisiana-Monroe.
