The Philadelphia Flyers have both Brayden and defenseman Luke Schenn on their roster - well, for the time being.
The two have been rumored to be the subject of trade talks by general manager Ron Hextall, with the blue-liner being a "strong candidate to be traded before the Oct. 8 season opener in Tampa", according to NJ.com.
After telling reporters this summer that the team would take a wait-and-see approach in regard to re-signing Brayden Schenn, Hextall gave The Courier-Post a lukewarm response when discussing the two preseason goals that the forward had scored.
"Brayden, I think, Brayden's been OK," Hextall told the newspaper. "It's training camp. It's early. ... I think we kinda know where Brayden is and what he is and that he prefers to play the right side, so we'll see where it goes."
The younger Schenn, who will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, has played in all 82 regular-season games in consecutive years. The 24-year-old collected 18 goals to go along with career bests in assists (29) and points (47) in 2014-15.
Luke Schenn, who was acquired in the James van Riemsdyk deal in 2012, is making $3.5 million on a team with little salary-cap flexibility and plenty of young defensemen. The fifth overall pick of the 2008 draft, Schenn scored three goals and set up 11 others in 58 games last season.
