Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers fell just short of making NFL history Sunday when he threw an incomplete pass.

Rivers couldn't connect on his third pass of the game, to Keenan Allen, against the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. His miss ended an impressive -- and nearly historic -- streak of 22 consecutive completions that started with 20 straight in the Chargers' Week 1 win against the Lions.

Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb owns the NFL's longest streak with 24 straight completions.

Rivers' mark is still tied for second all-time in league history with Joe Montana, David Carr and Mark Brunell.
