Cornerback Byron Maxwell is expecting a much-improved performance following his dismal debut with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"Timing, rhythm, everything is going to get back Game 2," Maxwell told reporters Wednesday. "That's just how it works; the more you get into the season, the better your game becomes, the sharper your game becomes."
Not having to face injured Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant can only help Maxwell, who was scorched by Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones in Monday's season-opening loss. Jones had nine catches for 141 yards and a pair of two touchdowns, earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Maxwell insisted he can "fix" some of the issues from the opener, in which he was targeted 11 times and saw Atlanta convert on 10 of those for 179 yards. He's also aware of how he will further incur the wrath of Philadelphia fans if he doesn't step up his game.
"I understand that's what it's going to be," said Maxwell, who signed a six-year, $63 million contract to join the Eagles. "They're going to react like that. They're going to love you when you do well and hate you when it goes the other way. That's part of the business that we're in. You've got to take one on the chin and keep moving. Keep going. You can't let it bother you too much."
