Torrey Smith was signed in the offseason in hopes he'd provide a playmaking threat to stretch the field for Colin Kaepernick.

In the preseason, that was hardly the case.

However, Smith maintains the chemistry between himself and his quarterback is growing each day in practice. Whether that translates to the game is a question that still needs to be answered.

"We've got to make it all happen at the right time during a game," Smith said when referring to a play in the 49ers-Texans preseason game, via ESPN. "On a [deep throw] play like that, it's not just about us two; there's the big guys up front getting it done, giving him time."

If Smith can be the deep threat he was in Baltimore, it would pay dividends for the run game and for Kaepernick under center.
