Just two seasons ago, safety Stevie Brown broke out with the New York Giants when he posted eight interceptions. After an ACL injury the following year, he has never been the same. The Giants signed him last week to bolster their depleted safety corps, but he didn't last long in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's defense.
The Giants signed veteran free agent safety Craig Dahl to the active 53-man roster this weekend and released Brown in a corresponding move. Dahl played with the Giants back in 2007 when Spagnuolo was the team's coordinator. He also played under Spagnuolo in their team with the Rams.
Dahl had latched on with the 49ers and he played out the preseason there. In their effort to get younger across the roster, they released him at final cuts this weekend. With his expertise in Spagnuolo's scheme, he could move up the Giants' depth chart at safety fast.
