Manchester United have made "no contact" with Ajax over rumored goalkeeping target Jasper Cillessen, according to club chief Marc Overmars.

Doubts remain over the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford, with David De Gea thought to be edging ever closer to a move to Real Madrid before the Spanish transfer deadline at midnight on Monday.

With Victor Valdes frozen out by manager Louis van Gaal, Sergio Romero has started each of United's six games so far this season, but his performances have done little to allay long-term fears. Van Gaal himself admitted he remains unsure over the Argentinean's suitability.

As a result, the likes of Ajax and Netherlands shot-stopper Cillessen have been linked with a move throughout the summer, but the Dutch club's director of football, Overmars, insists United have not contacted the club, with Tuesday's transfer deadline looming.

"There is no contact with Manchester United," he told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "I have heard nothing from Manchester United."
