The Texas Rangers acquired outfielder Will Venable in a minor deal with the San Diego Padres in order to shore up their outfield defense, and he came through in a major way on Thursday afternoon.

When Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cliff Pennington laced a line drive to left, Venable tracked it down and made a sprawling catch to deny him of extra bases and, probably, keep the Jays from scoring in the inning. Statcast broke down his amazing grab and the angles that went into it:

As the breakdown demonstrates, that really was quite a play by Venable.
