Joel Embiid already missed his entire rookie season and is set to miss the upcoming season. What's crazy is that he might not even be ready for the start of what would be his third season since being drafted.

Reporter Keith Pompey said at the Philadelphia Inquirer's website that the Philadelphia 76ers would like to see Embiid back in October 2016.

"Talking to my sources, they want to see him return around October -- not this October, but the next October, for that season. And he may not even return for the start of that season. He may miss a couple games. But that's their goal."

That's a long ways away. Embiid had surgery prior to last year's draft in which he was taken No. 3 overall. He recently underwent another surgery on his foot and is expected to miss the 2015-16 season.

Embiid reminds us of Greg Oden, whose career was derailed by knee injuries. As much of a bust as Oden has been considered, he at least played in 82 games for Portland. Hopefully, Embiid will be able to play in more for the Sixers. At the least, we're hoping he just gets back to his funny social media behavior of the past.
