The New York Yankees placed right-hander Bryan Mitchell on the 7-day concussion disabled list Tuesday, one day after he was struck in the face by a line drive.
Mitchell was hit by a liner off the bat of the Twins' Eduardo Nunez, who played for the Yankees from 2010-2013, in the second inning. Mitchell was knocked to the ground but eventually walked off the field under his own power, holding a towel over his bloodied face.
An evaluation at a local hospital revealed Mitchell suffered a nasal fracture, but he left the hospital in time to rejoin his teammates in the locker room after the game.
The Yankees recalled left-hander Chris Capuano from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Mitchell's spot in the rotation.
