Slowly but surely, Eric Berry is showing signs of his old playmaking form.
The Chiefs star safety had his first tackle of training camp on Sunday. He broke up a pass in drills. And he's noticeably looser than at any point since his return from Hodgkin's lymphoma.
"He's seeing things better," defensive coordinator Bob Sutton told ESPN. "It's slowing down for him. We're just going to follow his rhythm, whatever he feels like."
"He's feeling better I think every day," defensive coordinator Bob Sutton told ESPN. "I don't just mean from a physical (standpoint); I think he's getting back into football, too."
Sutton couldn't blame Berry if he's rusty. The cancer diagnosis sapped him of eight months of play, plus some of his strength.
Add in the missed practices before his diagnosis -- with an Achilles injury and several other bumps and bruises -- and Berry has practiced very little in the past few seasons.
The Chiefs are excited he's available, but there's still no rush. No. 29 plays with the second team defense and is under constant medical surveillance.
"He's feeling better I think every day," Sutton said. "I don't just mean from a physical (standpoint); I think he's getting back into football, too."
