Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may like the fight between receiver Dez Bryant and cornerback Tyler Patmon that occurred Monday, but veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick fails to see the fruits from the altercation.
"I don't condone fighting with your teammate at no expense," said Scandrick on Dallas sports radio KESN-FM. "I don't think you should ever go that far. I think we compete, we get into a little skirmish, and it should never come to the point that helmets come off and guys start to throw blows with each other."
During Monday's practice, Bryant and Patmon hand-fought at the line of scrimmage with the second-year corner tearing off the two-time Pro Bowler's helmet. Noticeably agitated, Bryant ripped off Patmon's helmet and proceeded to take a roundhouse swing at Patmon before fellow teammates stepped in to break it up. Even in the aftermath, Bryant walked over to Patmon and tried to paw at him before teammates again separated the two.
Even though the incident was a waste of time in Scandrick's eyes, he still respected the two Oklahoma State alumni as player with a tremendous competitive streak.
"But at the end of the day, those guys are great competitors, and they're both doing a good job," Scandrick said. "Pat's doing a good job of practicing and just bringing it every day.
"It didn't accomplish anything. Nobody got better on that play. Everybody's technique went out the window and it was just Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquio."
The 28-year-old veteran from nearby Torrance, California sees some of the same qualities in Patmon that he had in his early days with the Cowboys.
"He reminds me of kind of myself and some of the things that I did when I was younger and the way I used to practice when I was younger."
