Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is facing yet another long lay-off after scans on his injured ankle showed a suspected hairline fracture.
Wilshere sustained the injury in training on Saturday, but Arsenal were said to be initially confident that he would be fit again by the end of the next international break at the start of September.
However, should further diagnosis back up the scan reports, the best case scenario is that Wilshere will miss six weeks. Should the 23-year-old need surgery, he could be out for up to three months.
Wilshere has suffered several ankle injuries in the past and only returned from an injury suffered last November for the final six games of last season. He then starred for England in June and had been tipped for a big campaign by Arsene Wenger, but the latest setback will leave him once again having to work his way back to full fitness mid-season.
