Sheldon Richardson got himself into some hot water on Thursday as news broke that he was arrested on July 14 for allegedly street racing, going 143 miles per hour. Already set to serve a four-game suspension, Richardson's future as a New York Jet has become murky.
As you'd expect, head coach Todd Bowles is disappointed in his Pro Bowl defensive end, and he's concerned with him as a person.
During his press conference on Friday, Bowles addressed the issue, saying "we're prepared to win without him."
He'd continue by saying "clearly he needs help," and wants him to "become a better man." No one knows how much time Richardson will miss as a result of his actions, but the Jets are preparing for him to be out for a lengthy period of time. When asked if he expects Richardson to play this year, Bowles said "I have no idea."
The NFL could potentially suspend Richardson for a significant amount of time, and the Jets could also cut ties with their star defensive end, if they so choose. It will come down to a matter of whether or not Bowles and the Jets front office want a player of his character on the team.
