Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is not happy with his current contract situation, but that's not keeping him away from the team. After skipping voluntary workouts this spring, Bennett is in attendance at training camp, according to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times.
"It's just business," Bennett said, via the Sun-Times. "I have no hard feelings against anybody. Some business deals go the way you want. I have several business deals this offseason that worked and didn't work out.
"For me, [the pursuit of new contract was] just another business deal, and then that's just the way it is. Some deals get done, some don't. Still got to come work and do my job."
The missed time may have Bennett just a bit behind the rest of his teammates, but he's a well-rounded tight end who's likely to catch up quickly. In addition to being a reliable blocker, he has also been extremely productive pass-catcher with 155 receptions for 1,675 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons with the Bears.
Because he has been so successful since signing with the Bears, Bennett has grown unhappy with his current four-year, $20.4 million deal. He has been vying for a new contract, but the team hasn't budged since he is under contract for two more years and hasn't played a down yet under the new regime.
"I'm not even worried about a contract right now," Bennett said, per the Sun-Times. "Right now, I'm just coming out here like every other guy out here just trying to make as many plays as I possibly can -- outdo what I did last year and it will address itself."
Bennett's contract situation is likely to go on the back burner until next year. If he has another monstrous season in 2015, expect it to emerge once again as a major offseason storyline.
