A certain electricity is taking over the Detroit Lions' offense heading into training camp, and wide receiver Golden Tate can feel it.
"This year, hopefully, we don't have to go through that (wild-card route) again," Tate told Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. "But this year you've got to think, [quarterback Matthew] Stafford's had several offenses since he's been in the league. So for the fact that we have the same offense for the second year straight, I'm excited."
This season will be Detroit's second under offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, so the foundation has already been laid on that side of the ball. In 2015, the Lions must build upon what they've already accomplished. That will include tweaking a few things from last year.
"Now we get a chance to work on the details, the small things, maybe the snap counts, or maybe the more sophisticated things that we couldn't do the same year because it would have been too much," Tate said, via the Free Press. "I think we're night and day from where we were last year, and I'm (excited) soon as I can get out there."
Tate figures to be a large part of what the Lions want to do on offense moving forward. Last season, he was the team's most productive receiver in terms of receptions (99) and yardage (1,331). Stafford should have plenty of options between him, Calvin Johnson, Joique Bell, second-round rookie Ameer Abdullah and several others at the skill positions.
