Former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel has been named the starting QB for Louisiana Tech's season opener Sept. 5 against Southern.

"Just looking at the numbers from the whole body of work through spring practice, I felt Jeff Driskel gave us the best opportunity as a quarterback. That's when we looked at him and said he'll be the starter," Bulldogs coach Skip Holtz told the News Star.

The ex-Florida starter is eligible to play immediately for Louisiana Tech as a graduate transfer after being released from his scholarship by the Gators.

Driskel played in nine games for Florida in 2014 and started games in each of his final three seasons on campus. He finished his career at Florida with 3,411 career passing yards to go along with 23 touchdowns with 20 interceptions.
