Genoa, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Sinisa Mihajlovic stepped down as manager at Sampdoria on Monday, one day after his team concluded its Serie A campaign.
Mihajlovic guided Sampdoria to a 2-2 draw against Parma on Sunday, leaving the club in seventh place in Serie A. But he announced that he is walking away on Monday, with reports indicating that he could be line to replace Rafael Benitez at Napoli.
"The most difficult time has come for me, that of the goodbyes," Mihajlovic said in an open letter on his club's official website. "These are my last words as coach of Sampdoria. My adventure has come to an end."
The Serbian spent time during his playing career at Sampdoria, and he took charge of the club in November 2013 with the team struggling in the bottom half of the table.
Mihajlovic previously enjoyed coaching spells at Bologna, Catania, Fiorentina and the Serbian national team, and he has denied that there is a deal already in place for him to join Napoli.
