San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Will Middlebrooks homered and drove in three runs to help the San Diego Padres to a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday night.
Jedd Gyorko had two RBI and Clint Barmes had three hits with an RBI in the win.
Odrisamer Despaigne (3-3) allowed one run on seven hits over eight innings of work for San Diego, which earned a split of the four-game series with Pittsburgh.
Jeff Locke (3-3) took the loss after giving up seven runs -- six earned -- in four innings.
Gregory Polanco's home run accounted for the Pirates' lone run.
The Padres loaded the bases in the first with a single and two walks. Locke got Middlebrooks to go down swinging for the second out, but Gyorko plated two with a single to center.
San Diego added a run in the second on Pedro Alvarez's error that would have ended the inning. Barmes scored on the play to make it 3-0.
Middlebrooks made amends for his first at-bat in the third with a two-run shot to left that plated Matt Kemp. Barmes stretched the lead to 6-0 later in the inning with an RBI knock to center.
Middlebrooks kept up the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Polanco broke up Despaigne's shutout bid with a solo shot in the seventh.

San Diego outhit the Pirates 13-8 ... Justin Upton had three hits in the win ... Pittsburgh went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
