Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed catcher Tuffy Gosewisch on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to an ACL injury in his left knee.
To take his place on the roster, the Diamondbacks selected the contract of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Triple-A Reno. Catcher Oscar Hernandez was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
Gosewisch suffered the injury while trying to beat out a grounder in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. The injury was originally diagnosed as a jammed knee, but he underwent an MRI on Thursday.
The 31-year-old Gosewisch was hitting .211 with six doubles, one homer and 13 RBI in 38 games this season.
Jordan Pacheco and Saltalamacchia will now share the catching duties in his absence.
Saltalamacchia was designated for assignment by the Marlins on April 27, and released on May 5. He then signed a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks.
The 30-year-old Saltalamacchia went 2-for-29 with a .182 on-base percentage in nine games with Miami this season.
He batted .220 with 11 homers and 44 RBI in 114 games for the Marlins last season after signing a three-year, $21-million contract in December 2013.
Saltalamacchia is a career .240 hitter with 90 homers and 320 RBI in 718 games with Atlanta, Texas, Boston and Miami.
