Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Carlos Peguero from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations on Wednesday.

Peguero, who was designated for assignment on May 20, batted .186 with four home runs and nine RBI over 30 games this season with Texas.

The 28-year-old signed with the Rangers as a free agent in January after spending his first three seasons with the Seattle Mariners and last year with the Kansas City Royals.

In a corresponding roster move, the Red Sox moved pitcher Anthony Varvaro to the 60-day disabled list. Varvaro underwent successful surgery to remove elbow calcification on Tuesday.
