New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals have the best record in the American League and the fans have apparently noticed.
Five Royals are among the leaders at their respective positions in the first results for the American League All-Star balloting.
Catcher Salvador Perez is the overall leader with 1,447,753 votes, while other Royals positional leaders are third baseman Mike Moustakas, shortstop Alcides Escobar and outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon.
Cain and Gordon are first and third, respectively, in the outfield, sandwiched around Angels star Mike Trout.
The other positional leaders are Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera, Houston second baseman Jose Altuve and Seattle designated hitter Nelson Cruz. Royals players -- first baseman Eric Hosmer, second baseman Omar Infante and designated hitter Kendrys Morales -- are each second in the early balloting at those positions.
Only the 1976 Cincinnati Reds -- with Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Dave Concepcion and George Foster -- had five starters for the All-Star Game since fan balloting returned in 1970.
This year's All-Star Game is scheduled for July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
