Rome, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Roma secured second place in Serie A and an automatic berth in the Champions League next season with a 2-1 derby win over Lazio thanks to a goal in the 85th minute from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
Juan Manuel Iturbe broke a scoreless deadlock for Roma in the 73rd minute, but his goal was canceled out in the 82nd by Filip Djordjevic for Lazio, which needed a win to move above Roma in the table.
But Yanga-Mbiwa's header a few minutes later sealed all three points for Roma and it leaves Lazio in danger of dropping into the Europa League if the club loses against Napoli on the final day of the season.
Lazio showed much more attacking intent in the first half with the team needing a win to jump over their rivals, while Roma was content to defend.
Antonio Candreva's cross picked out the head of Miroslav Klose six yards from goal, but the German failed to hit the target, squandering the best chance of the opening half.
Roma picked things up after the break and Victor Ibarbo wasted a good opportunity to give his team the lead before he set up the opening goal in the 73rd with a low cross that was prodded home by Iturbe from six yards.
Lazio responded in the 82nd when a cross from Felipe Anderson was headed back across the face of goal by Klose, leaving an easy finish for Djordjevic.
Roma could have been content to see out the rest of the game and settle for a point, but the team snatched the win and second place when Yanga-Mbiwa's flicked header from a Miralem Pjanic free kick found its way past Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.
