Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Gordon's solo homer in the top of the 10th inning gave the Kansas City Royals a 7-6 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

Gordon had three of Kansas City's 12 hits. Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer also hit solo homers.

Edinson Volquez allowed four runs on six hits over five-plus innings for the Royals, who bounced back from an 8-2 loss in the series opener on Monday. Greg Holland (1-0) picked up the win despite giving up one run on two hits over the final two innings.

"I thought it was one of those seesaw games where both teams just traded punches," Royals manager Ned Yost said.

Shin-Soo Choo went 3-for-5 with a solo homer for the Rangers. Prince Fielder had two RBI.

Texas starter Nick Martinez allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Stolmy Pimentel (0-1) gave up Gordon's homer in the 10th.

"Great baseball game. With a team like that you just gotta find ways to battle," Martinez said.

Lorenzo Cain's RBI groundout in the top of the ninth broke a 5-5 tie. Neftali Feliz gave up consecutive one-out singles to Alcides Escobar and Moustakas. Escobar scored the go-ahead run when Cain grounded out to second.

The Rangers tied things up in the home half on Adrian Beltre's RBI single. Choo started things with a single off Holland. Jake Smolinski came on as a pinch-runner, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and raced home on Beltre's two-out single to right-center field.

Gordon homered on the first pitch of the 10th, pulling a ball into the seats down the right-field line.

Choo and Hosmer hit solo homers for their respective teams in the first and second.

Texas took the lead back in the third when Delino DeShields Jr. walked, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and raced home on Fielder's single.

Fielder and DeShields combined to plate another run in the fifth. DeShields walked, stole second, advanced to third on Elvis Andrus' single and crossed the plate on Fielder's sacrifice fly.

Kansas City went in front with a three-run sixth. Cain led off with a double and crossed the plate on Hosmer's single to left. Kendrys Morales followed with an RBI double to left-center field. After Gordon flied out, Salvador Perez reached on Andrus' throwing error. Omar Infante's sacrifice fly gave the Royals a 4-3 lead.

The Rangers tied things up in the bottom half. Kyle Blanks led off with a double, chasing Volquez from the game. Thomas Field hit a one-out single off Ryan Madson to put men on the corners, and Robinson Chirinos' sacrifice fly made it 4-4.

Moustakas hit a solo homer off Alex Claudio in the seventh.

Texas tied the game once again in the bottom half. Andrus and Beltre singled off Luke Hochevar to put men on the corners with two outs. Blanks followed with an RBI bloop single down the right-field line. Carlos Peguero then lined out to Escobar, who made a diving catch.
