Durham, NH (SportsNetwork.com) - One usually thinks offense with the University of New Hampshire football program, but defensive players put on an impressive show Saturday as Team Cats defeated Team Wild, 23-10, in the spring game at Cowell Stadium.

Odaine Franklyn tied for game-high honors with six tackles, including four for a loss and a sack.

The defense had five sacks and forced two turnovers, and Nick Marino and D'Andre Drummond-Mayrie matched Franklyn with six tackles apiece. Patrick Mensah and Daniel Rowe both had an interception.

Among the quarterbacks, starter Sean Goldrich was 11-for-27 for 77 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Chris McCormick was 10-for-17 for 93 yards, while Adam Riese threw a pair of touchdown passes.

New Hampshire, the defending CAA Football champion, held the No. 1 ranking in the FCS last season and was the top seed in the national playoffs before it fell to Illinois State in the semifinals. The Wildcats set a school record for wins in finishing 12-2 and with a No. 3 final ranking in The Sports Network FCS Top 25.

This year, the Wildcats will open an 11-game regular season with a visit to San Jose State on Sept. 3.
