New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Olympic decathlon champion Bruce Jenner said in an interview Friday that "for all intents and purposes, I'm a woman."
Jenner ended speculation of his transition by making the comments to ABC's Diane Sawyer in an interview that aired on the show "20/20."
"My brain is much more female than it is male," he said during the interview. "It's hard for people to understand that, but that's what my soul is."
Jenner, 65, became a national star after winning a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
More recently, Jenner gained widespread fame starring in the reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" as the husband of the family's matriarch before their divorce last year.
"Not only was I able to call him my husband for 25 years and father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero," said Kris Jenner via Twitter. Kris Jenner, who was married to Robert Kardashian from 1978-1991, was Jenner's third wife before their divorce was finalized in March.
