(SportsNetwork.com) - San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan and Columbus Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards will coach in the upcoming IIHF World Hockey Championship.

McLellan will guide Team Canada for the annual competition, while Richards will be behind the bench for the United States.

This year's tournament is slated to take place from May 1-17 in the Czech Republic.

McLellan's only previous experience with Team Canada was an assistant for the national junior team that won a bronze medal at the 2000 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Former New Jersey Devils coach Peter DeBoer and Carolina Hurricanes coach Bill Peters will be assistants for Team Canada, along with San Jose assistant Jay Woodcroft.

Joining Richards for Team USA will be former Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma. Richards was an assistant for Bylsma at last year's Olympics in Sochi.
