Sean Monahan scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period to lift the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night.
Monahan carried the puck up ice and into the Coyotes' zone and, after hitting the brakes in the slot, sent a shot past Mike Smith for his 31st goal of the season. It came less than 2 minutes after Arizona capitalized on a big mistake by Flames goalie Jonas Hiller to tie it.
David Jones and Johnny Gaudreau also scored for the Flames, which swept the teams' five-game season series by a combined score of 20-8.
B.J. Crombeen and Craig Cunningham scored for the Coyotes.
Calgary can clinch their first trip to the postseason in six years when it hosts Los Angeles.
