Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - No. 5 seed Santiago Giraldo was an easy opening-round winner Tuesday at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship.

The Colombian player drilled qualifier and fellow South American Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil 6-2, 6-2 at River Oaks Country Club.

Another seed moved on when No. 7 Jeremy Chardy of France handled Serb Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile, an all-American affair saw two-time NCAA singles champion Steve Johnson stop left-hander Donald Young 7-5, 6-4 and Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili rolled past American Tim Smyczek 6-3, 6-3. Gabashvili should have his hands full with fourth-seeded 6-foot-10 American John Isner in the round of 16.

Also on Day 2, Korean Hyeon Chung defeated Argentine fellow qualifier Facundo Arguello 6-3, 7-5.
