Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves quickly decided to part ways with outfielder Carlos Quentin, a day after he was acquired from San Diego as part of the deal that sent closer Craig Kimbrel to the Padres.
Quentin was designated for assignment on Monday, just hours before the Braves opened the season against the Miami Marlins.
The 32-year-old veteran spent three injury-filled seasons in San Diego after four successful seasons with the Chicago White Sox. He never played more than 86 games during his time with the Padres and batted just .251 with 33 homers and 108 RBI over 218 games.
In 834 career big league games with the Diamondbacks, White Sox and Padres, Quentin is a .252 hitter with 154 homers and 491 RBI. He was twice an All-Star with Chicago.
The Braves also placed pitcher Josh Outman on the 60-day disabled list because of a shoulder injury and recalled pitcher Brandon Cunniff from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the roster spot.
In addition, Atlanta also traded minor league outfielder Victor Reyes to Arizona for a competitive balance pick in the 2015 draft.
