Mariners release P Correia

Peoria, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners granted pitcher Kevin Correia his unconditional release Monday, one day after assigning the veteran to minor league camp.

Correia signed a minor league contract with Seattle on March 9 but was hit hard in three appearances this spring, allowing five runs and six hits -- including a pair of homers -- over just 2 2/3 innings.

The 34-year-old journeyman was 7-17 with a 5.44 ERA in 32 games, including 26 starts, with Minnesota and the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.

Correia was named a National League All-Star with the Pirates in 2001. The right-hander owns a 76-95 record with a 4.59 ERA over 12 major league seasons.
