Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rapids hit the road on Saturday to tangle with the Houston Dynamo, and the visitors will be hoping to end a few bad streaks at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The good news for Colorado head coach Pablo Mastroeni is that his team has yet to taste defeat in two games this season. However, the bad part is that the Rapids have failed to score in either game, playing to 0-0 draws with the Philadelphia Union and New York City FC.
Dating back to last season, Colorado is in the midst of a 16-game winless streak, while the club has failed to score in the last 420 minutes of action including last term.
Despite the negative numbers surrounding the Rapids, the team should at least be a bit encouraged by its most recent outing against NYCFC.
Midfielder Dillon Powers felt his side put in the kind of performance that should result in three points, and he believes his teammates are also anxious to start producing results.
"More often than not, we're going to win if we played like we did today," Powers said of Colorado's performance against NYCFC. "I was happy I got some shots off, but I feel there's more. I think that's the sense with all the guys. It was a good performance but we really wanted that three points and we feel like we could've had it today."
The good news for Colorado is that the team will be facing Houston, which hasn't beaten the Rapids in the last seven meetings between the sides.
Colorado has gone 4-0-3 in that time against Houston, which last recorded a win over the Rapids in league play in 2009.
Houston has struggled in front of goal this season as well with the Dynamo managing two goals in their first three games.
But that total has been good enough to net the club four points, including a confidence-building 1-1 draw at the defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy last weekend.
After going behind inside of three minutes to a goal from Robbie Keane, Houston responded with an equalizer eight minutes later through Nathan Sturgis.
Houston head coach Owen Coyle feels as though the result will lift his team, although he will be concerned out the fact that Giles Barnes, Jermaine Taylor, Luis Garrido and Boniek Garcia will each be away on international duty.
"Coming off a very good performance and a valuable point against the champions there's a lot that's positive going into Saturday's game but we're missing a number of players," Coyle said. "Coming into the league I said there was going to be lots of things I had to learn and deal with and one of them was obviously now that they play on FIFA calendar dates. We'll focus on what we've got, hopefully we'll have one or two back."
