Shanghai, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu won the men's short program Friday at the 2015 World Figure Skating Championships.

Hanyu, the reigning Olympic and world champion, stumbled slightly on his opening jump, but sailed through the remainder of his routine. He earned a score of 95.20, outdistancing Spain's Javier Fernandez for the top spot.

Fernandez, the reigning three-time European champion, posted a score of 92.74. He was fourth at last year's Sochi Games and followed up with a bronze medal at the 2014 worlds.

Kazakhstan's Denis Ten, the Olympic bronze medalist from a year ago, finished a distant third Friday with a score of 85.89.

Russian Sergei Voronov was next, followed by China's Yan Han and American Jason Brown.
