Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has signed striker Robert Earnshaw, pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.

Earnshaw spent a short spell with the Chicago Fire last season as he scored three goals in only five appearances, but was not retained at the end of the season.

However, after an extended trial period with Vancouver, the club has decided to sign the 33-year-old forward and reunite him with former teammate and current Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson.

"I'm very excited to officially join Whitecaps FC and be a part of this great organization," said Earnshaw. "The club has treated me well since I've been here. I'm thrilled to help the team continue to progress, while bringing enjoyment and passion to my new team."

In addition to signing with the Whitecaps on Wednesday Earnshaw also announced his retirement from international play with Wales, bringing an end to his national team career which included 16 goals in 59 appearances.
