Pacers sneak past Wizards to end losing skid

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - George Hill scored 12 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter and made the go-ahead layup with 2.7 seconds remaining to lift the Indiana Pacers to a 103-101 win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.

Hill denied a screen from the top of the key and slipped in for a scoop layup over two defenders to break a 101-101 tie. Washington was out of a timeouts, and had to settle for a Rasual Butler halfcourt heave that missed badly at the horn.

""We were supposed to trap the ball. We didn't," Washington coach Randy Wittman's go-ahead shot.

Hill added nine assists and seven rebounds for the Pacers, who are still alive in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt despite losing their previous six games.

"Coming from San Antonio, I learned from a guy, Tony Parker, how to shoot right foot, right-hand scoop layups, floaters, going across your body," Hill said of his shot.

C.J. Miles added 16 points, Solomon Hill scored 13 and David West contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds in the crucial win.

John Wall scored a season-high 34 points with six assists for Washington, losers in four straight.

Solomon Hill hit two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws in the first two minutes of the second half to highlight a 10-2 Pacers run. Neither team led by more than four in the period until Marcin Gortat's hook shot in the final minute gave Washington a 76-70 edge after three.

Wall scored six during an 8-2 run early in the fourth that extended Washington's lead into double digits. Then, the Wizards went cold.

West rebounded his own missed free throw and put in the rebound to jumpstart a prolonged 17-4 run that put Indiana in the driver's seat. George Hill scored 10 of the last 11 points during the spurt, including a layup with 2 1/2 minutes left that put the Pacers in front and a jumper to extend the lead to 97-94.

Miles made two free throws with 19 seconds to play to keep it a three-point lead. Wall erased it with a deep triple moments later, setting up the climactic finale.

The Wizards led by as many as 13 points in the first half before taking a 44-42 lead into the break.
