New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The NFC-champion Seattle Seahawks were among three teams that were awarded four compensatory picks in the NFL Draft, the maximum number allowed under NFL rules.
The league announced a total of 32 compensatory picks for 14 teams on Monday.
The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs also were awarded four picks.
The selections are handed out to teams that lost more or better compensatory free agents than they acquired in the previous year.
The picks are positioned in rounds three through seven based on the value of compensatory free agents lost determined by a formula taking into account a player's salary, playing time and postseason honors.
The Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans received three compensatory picks each. Baltimore has received more of them -- 44 -- than any other team since they were first awarded in 1994.
The Super Bowl-champion New England Patriots were one of five teams awarded two compensatory picks. The Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers were the others.
Arizona, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and St. Louis were awarded one pick each.
The Patriots, Chiefs and Bengals drew picks in the third round.
The draft begins on Thursday, April 30, and runs through Saturday, May 2.
