Rome, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Lazio extended its unbeaten run across all competitions to seven matches on Sunday with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.
Having last tasted defeat back on Feb. 9 when the club fell to a 1-0 defeat against Genoa, the Eagles have soared all the way up to third place in the Serie A table thanks to this excellent run of form.
Sunday's clash got off to a flying start as Felipe Anderson found the back of the net for his ninth goal of the campaign after just five minutes.
The clubs traded chances back and forth for the duration of the first half before Antonio Candreva doubled Lazio's advantage in the 45th minute.
Hellas Verona entered the match in decent form, going unbeaten over their past four matches in league play, but Hellas produced little in the way of scoring opportunities as they managed just two attempts on frame and one corner kick.
Lazio was easily able to see out the second half to collect all three points and move within one point of second-place Roma with 53 points. Hellas, meanwhile, remain in 16th place with 32 points.
Also in Serie A on Sunday, league leaders Juventus claimed their fourth consecutive win across all competitions with a 1-0 victory over Genoa at Juventus Stadium thanks to a 25th-minute goal from Carlos Tevez.
Tevez had an opportunity to double the lead in the 62nd minute, but failed to convert his penalty chance. The miss mattered little as the Old Lady held on for three points.
Riccardo Saponara scored a pair of goals on either side of the intermission and Levan Mchedlidze added a third goal to lift Empoli to a 3-1 win over Sassuolo.
Daniele De Rossi's 41st-minute goal propelled Roma to a 1-0 win over Cesena, while Maxi Lopez and Migjen Basha powered Torino to a 2-0 victory against Parma.
Duvan Zapata and Mauricio Pinilla traded goals as 10-man Atalanta and Napoli played to a 1-1 draw, while Eder struck with 25 minutes to play, giving Sampdoria a 1-0 win over Inter Milan.
Sunday's final clash saw Mario Gomez score a pair of goals as Fiorentina and Udinese played to a 2-2 stalemate.
