Jacksonville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Jacksonville Jaguars were awarded former Baltimore Ravens running back Bernard Pierce off waivers on Thursday, the team said.
The Ravens released Pierce on Wednesday, just hours after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The three-year NFL veteran was stopped for going 55 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone by police in Towson, Maryland, just before 2 a.m. ET Wednesday morning and was arrested after failing several sobriety tests.
According to the police report, Pierce was noted as saying, "Do you know what happened the last time a Ravens player got a DUI? I'm getting cut tomorrow, not like you care."
Pierce was arrested moments later and driven back to the precinct, where he passed out on a bench. He was awakened by an officer and had trouble remembering how much he weighed, initially slurring 530 pounds before correcting himself.
The 23-year-old was booked and later released.
Pierce rushed for 366 yards and two touchdowns on 93 carries in 13 games last season with Baltimore.
In three seasons with the Ravens, the Temple product recorded 353 carries for 1,334 yards and five touchdowns in 45 games.
