Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Oilers revealed that forward Matt Fraser suffered a concussion as a result of a hit by Leafs forward Nazem Kadri.
"He was concussed, and we're going to follow protocol. We're going to re- evaluate him tomorrow, but I can say that he's doing well," noted Oilers interim head coach Todd Nelson following practice on Tuesday.
Fraser and Kadri made contact just after the midway point of the third period in Edmonton's 4-1 victory over Toronto on Monday night at Rexall Place. Kadri was hit with a minor for an illegal check to the head and faces a hearing with the NHL's department of player safety on Wednesday.
"It was a play where he was reaching down a bit, and we've seen those hits before where a player comes in and finishes his check and sometimes the opposing player is bending over trying to reach a puck and those things happen," Nelson added.
Fraser has played 52 combined games between the Bruins and Oilers this season, totaling six goals and four assists.
