Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Tanguay had a goal and an assist in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Ryan O'Reilly and John Mitchell also scored for the Avs, while Tyson Barrie finished with two assists.
Semyon Varlamov made 22 saves to help Colorado to its fifth win in six games.
"Tonight was crucial, and we'll take it," sand Tanguay. "This was a good game for us."
After a scoreless first period, the Avs struck twice in the second. Tanguay's 19th of the season came on the power play at 10:20, when he snuck a wrister past Karri Ramo. Less than two minutes later, O'Reilly sped in and went high over Ramo's glove.
Calgary cut its deficit in half early in the third, as David Jones deflected in Mikael Backlund's rebound. But Mitchell restored Colorado's two-goal advantage 28 seconds later on a tremendous individual effort, juking a number of defenders before firing in a wrister from the right circle.
Lance Bouma's goal off the post at 5:48 made it 3-2, but Varlamov made 10 stops in the third to keep it a 3-2 game.
"They did a great job in the third by really not giving us much," Bouma said.
Ramo made 23 stops in the loss, just Calgary's second in the last seven games.
Colorado will begin a five-game road trip in Arizona on Thursday ... Calgary was only whistled for one penalty, which resulted in an Avalanche goal.
