Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Chiefs released veteran wide receiver Dwayne Bowe Thursday.
Bowe, who was drafted 23rd overall by the Chiefs in 2007 out of LSU, had 60 receptions and 754 yards in 15 games last season, but was held without a touchdown for the first time in his career.
The move came after the Chiefs made the signing of former Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin official on Wednesday.
"This was a tough decision to make," Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said. "Dwayne is a team-first guy and he holds a number of team receiving records. We felt this was in the best interest of the club at this time."
Bowe, who was scheduled to make $10.75 million next season, posted a career- high 15 touchdowns during the 2010 season, but has since scored just 13.
Over eight seasons with the Chiefs, the 30-year-old has compiled 532 catches for 7,155 yards and 44 scores in 118 games.
Bowe played in the 2010 Pro Bowl and ranks third in franchise history for yards behind Tony Gonzalez and Otis Taylor.
