Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Texans have re-signed cornerback Kareem Jackson and tackle Derek Newton, who were both unrestricted free agents.

Terms of the deals, which were announced Monday on the eve of the new league year, were not disclosed.

Jackson, 26, had 57 tackles, three interceptions and nine passes defensed in 13 games last season. He has 279 tackles and 10 interceptions in 74 games since the Texans selected him in the first round of the 2010 draft out of Alabama.

Newton, 27, has started all 32 games the past two seasons and 46 of the 60 games he's appeared in since being drafted by Houston in the seventh round in 2011.
