Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Panthers re-signed Joe Webb to a one-year contract on Monday.

Webb, who signed with the Panthers on a one-year deal last March, was third on the depth chart at quarterback for the Panthers behind Cam Newton and Derek Anderson and was used mostly in other ways last season.

He had a 16-yard catch as a wide receiver, returned two kickoffs for a total of 53 yards and contributed on kick coverage.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback and wide receiver gives the team "continuity at the quarterback position."

"He is also a very versatile player," Rivera said, according to the team's official website. "Not only has he played quarterback, but he has played wide receiver and on special teams and gives us some depth there because of his athleticism and intelligence. We are very excited for him to continue to be part of what we're trying to build here."
